Could be better

I thought the idea was good, but the flash could use some work. For one, it moved pretty slow, which made it hard to watch. Simply shortening the breaks a little would help that. Also, while the sprite work was pretty good, the graphics weren't anything too special. Also, there needs to be at least some sort of sound when the characters are talking, even if it is just some sort of background music. The times when there was no sound really made it more boring.

Overall, good start, and hopefully we'll see something better next time!

Paradox responds:

At first the frame rate was a little higher, but it looked a bit shitty, so I lowered it to the best looking frame rate. I know it looks a little slow, but it took a lot of fixing everything to cause it to work as well as it does.

I was going to add more sound and interactivity too, but it was overally too much of a process each and every time, so I didn't bother. Maybe if I make a second one, I'll put a little more effort into things like that. But that all depends on what kind of reviews and feedback I get from this first one.

Thanks for the review! :)

Good, but needs improvement

This was a pretty good flash. Contrary to what the last reviewer said, I think your models are actually quite well-done. However, there are some other issues you need to fix.

One is framerate, as others have said. Your movie should flow smoothly, with something like 15 fps being minimum and about 25 being optimal. That's a lot of work, but it would greatly improve the end results.

Another simple thing you can do to improve the movie is to make the camera more steady. Whether this means buying a tripod (mini tripods aren't too expensive) or rigging something up (set the camera on some books or a box, or something like that) it would greatly improve the quality.

I agree with the last reviewer that you should try to find someone else to help with voices, so that there is more variety.

Also, you could try making the intro a little more interesting, and make the music flow better. The guitar-playing shouldn't have stopped during the title screen, but rather have gone on playing through that whole section, for example.

If it is worth it to you, it would be nice to see your animations captured with a better camer, also, and your audio captured with a better mic.

There's a lot of potential here for some really good claymation, so keep up the good work and I'll be watching for another from you!

RayzTheDude responds:

That true, but I was using a $14 digital camera from Walmart since I don't have any money. I tried fixing the problem by putting clay on the camera so it doesnt move as much.

This is why they made YTMND

No, on second thought, this is why they made the Recycle Bin.

W-P-S responds:

I don't give a fuck, really

Almost good

PLEASE ADD A PRELOADER!

I think I speak for most everyone when I say a preloader improves your Flash immensely.

Also, don't do loops. That's just not cool.

Other than that, it's fairly decent.

skellystudios responds:

Hehe it has a pre-loader, but at just 280kb, you might not have noticed it! But yes, loops are very irritating. For that I can only apologize.

I woulda rated this higher if...

it was longer. Seriously, it was good, but it was pretty short. Please make more!

Not bad for a first

I gave you a low score because I just grade low in general, but for a first shot it wasn't bad. The graphics were pretty poor (though admittedly better than I can do), and the style was bland. It was a little humorous, but not enough for me to grade it higher. As far as sound, I liked the music ('Mars' by Holst, right?), but it would've made it better to have at least some sound effects, if that were possible. Since you were imitating an old movie, they wouldn't even need to be good sound effects, or perfectly timed.

Anyway, I hope this review was somewhat helpful, and keep practicing!

void150 responds:

Sound effects will indeed be present on my next animation. I was really more interested in learning how to edit and do effects and stuff visually, so sound was kind of just an afterthought. But yes, you're right, that was 'Mars' by Holst, one of my favourite pieces!

I don't know why people would rate this low

I hope the people giving this 5 or lower give most other submissions zeros. I usually score low (generally a 2 or a blam), and I voted this a 4.

One of the best animations that I've seen come through the Portal recently. And D3N15: "just a bit messy"??? I don't know where that comes from.

Keep up the good work!

Not long enough

This was very neat. The animation looked cool, even though it wasn't too realistic. I like the idea of overlaying movie with flash elements (i.e. the lightsaber) even though it's nothing new.

What I would suggest is to make something longer, with a little more story. Other than that, it was sweet! Also, the sounds of the lightsaber were too quiet.

Good, but could use improvement

I initially had a pause between 'that' and 'movie', but during the second run through it went fine. I liked this, but it could have been better. For one, I thought the music in the beginning stopped a little too soon. It would have been better to have some upbeat fast music going through the rest of the flash as well. The only other improvement I could see would be to vary the ways that the stick figure dies, because it kinda got old with him getting shot in the head every time.

Could've been much better

This movie was well-done, and I like your art style. However, it moved way to slow to keep my interest, and the funny parts were few and far between. Had it been condensed to about half the length, while keeping the humor, it would've been a much better flash overall.

RatherRandomReality responds:

Well, that's my very first movie in flash, so the beginning is slow, I agree, but I wanted to keep it because I worked a lot on it and wanted people to see it. Being a foreigner means that I have some problems creating and recording a decent dialog, that is why I stressed on the graphics on that one.
Thanks for the review.
